Why You Shouldn’t Let Just Anyone Administer Your Botox

If you're ready to find out if Botox could be right for you, book an appointment online or over the phone with Petrin Dermato

Botox® injections have smoothed facial lines and wrinkles in millions of men and women around the world. This procedure, if done properly, can leave your face looking years younger.

The key to getting the best results is to get treated by an experienced provider. Without the right touch, Botox injections can paralyze your expressions and reduce your ability to emote. At Petrin Dermatology in Redmond, Washington, James Petrin, MD, has the experience to make sure your Botox treatment is done right every time.

How Botox works

When you smile, frown, and do other repeated facial movements, the muscles that perform these movements can begin to stay in a constant state of contraction. When these muscles stay contracted, the skin above them can form lines and wrinkles. It’s these lines and wrinkles Botox treats.

Botox contains botulinum toxin Type A, which, in small amounts, can temporarily paralyze facial muscles and cause them to relax. This, in turn, can smooth out the lines and wrinkles caused by the contracted muscles.

Experience matters

A good Botox treatment will target specific facial muscles and leave the rest alone so you can express your emotions. Administered by a skilled provider, Botox doesn't have to reduce your facial expressiveness and make your face look the same all the time. A good Botox procedure can make you look years younger and still allow you to express yourself.

Treatments are quick

While botulinum toxin can be fatal, the small amounts used in cosmetic applications are not harmful. When you come in for treatment, Dr. Petrin uses a thin needle to inject Botox into specific muscles. The number of injections you need will vary depending on the treatment area. Your appointment should only take 30-60 minutes.

After your treatment, you can get back to your normal routine for the most part. For the first 24 hours, you should avoid exercising and doing anything that could get your blood pumping quickly, as doing so could cause the toxin to spread outside the treatment area.

Furthermore, for about a day after your treatment, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for the same reason. Your results should appear 1-3 days after treatment, and they can last up to three months, at which point you can get another treatment

Botox isn't right for everyone. We don't recommend Botox if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to cow’s milk. Any side effects are usually minor and should fade in a few days. Side effects may include dry eyes or tearing, headaches, or pain and swelling at the injection site.
